What is Reformulated Gasoline?

Reformulated gasoline (RFG) is a special blend designed to reduce harmful automotive emissions. RFG must be marketed in those areas of the United States where air quality doesn't meet the ozone requirements of the Clean Air Act Amendments. It is formulated to release fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and has a lower benzene content. In the St. Louis metro area, RFG is required in St. Louis City as well as the counties of St. Louis, St. Charles, Franklin, and Jefferson in Missouri and Madison, Monroe, St. Clair and Jersey counties in Illinois.
